A Registered Piano Technician (RPT) is a member of The Piano Technicians Guild who has demonstrated competence by passing a series of three rigorous examinations on the maintenance, repair and tuning of pianos.
The Piano Technicians Guild
The Piano Technicians Guild (PTG) is a not for profit association of piano technicians with members worldwide. The PTG has two major functions: to provide education for professional piano technicians and to operate an examinations program to qualify technicians as Registered Piano Technicians (RPT).
The Piano Technicians Guild has two levels of membership, Associate and Registered. Associate membership is granted upon joining the Guild while becoming a Registered Piano Technician is earned by passing a set of rigorous, standardised examinations. There are three tests: written, technical and tuning. All examinations have a passing grade of 80%. Being a Registered member means adhering to a strict code of ethics and participating in on-going education.
